Class of 2012 Pro Football Hall of Famer CHRIS DOLEMAN joined an elite group of men this August when he was formally enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Now, Doleman will join two other Hall of Fame players, FRED BILETNIKOFF and MARSHALL FAULK, on the new United States Football League's board of advisors.
The league hopes to begin play in March of 2013 and Chris’ role will include working on the league’s charitable efforts and community engagement.
“Adding Chris to our board is another positive step for us,” said USFL President and CEO Jaime Cuadra in a statement from the league. “With the roster of top-notch former NFL players and proven executives we have put together, we feel we have the right people in place to help us achieve our goal of getting this league off the ground.”

Hall of Fame running back EARL CAMPBELL was on hand in his hometown of Tyler, Texas to make a special announcement about a new major college football award that will carry his name. Campbell was on hand Wednesday, Aug. 29 at the annual East Texas Kick-Off Luncheon hosted by SPORTyler and the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce.
The new Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award will be presented each year, starting at the conclusion of the 2013 season, to the country’s most outstanding Division I college offensive player of the year. The winner will be chosen by a selection committee comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators, former winners and fan and announced in December at an awards dinner hosted in Tyler.

Kent State University opened its football season on Thursday, Aug. 30 against Towson University at Dix Stadium. The Golden Flashes celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Kent State’s 1972 MAC championship team.
The celebration honored the championship team of then head coach Don James. His star player that season was Pro Football Hall of Famer JACK LAMBERT. The fierce linebacker, who wore number 99 for the Golden Flashes, struck fear into opposing offenses as he roamed the field from his middle linebacker position. He anchored the vaunted defense known as the “James Gang.” That season he led the MAC with 233 tackles and earning MAC Defensive Player of the Year honors. He capped the season as the Tangerine Bowl MVP.
Four decades later, the reunion kicked off on Wednesday night when Lambert returned to Kent, to visit, reminisce and catch up with his former teammates during a reception at Kent’s iconic restaurant Ray’s Place.
