Willie Lanier's Unusual Helmet
Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Lanier, nicknamed “Contact” for his hard-hitting style, wore this unusual helmet that includes extra padding on the outside shell designed to help absorb the impact of his hits on opponents. Lanier, a perennial all-league performer, was the defensive star of the Chiefs upset win over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.
